Hey everyone,
Hope everyone is doing well. I’m back into full swing now with the events and photoshoots, so I thought I’d show you all some pics from the recent APSA pro street shootout. Check out the Motorsports section of the gallery for a bout 50 shots from this exciting day…LOTS of wheelstand shots!
Also, there’s three new pics to peruse in the Magazine Shoots section.
Take care everyone and keep an eye on the site for plenty more great photos to come!
Hi everyone.
Things have been a bit slow on the photography front lately, but are about to pick up big time.
I went to a small show just down the road from me a few weeks ago and I’ll try and get some pics up from that soon. Also went to the second annual running of the Mopoar Muscle Weekend at Warwick Dragway last weekend, so keep your eyes peeled for those pics as well.
Also, I’ve got a big weekend coming up with the Nostalgia drags at Willowbank Raceway tomorrow and then a couple of shoots organised on Sunday afternoon.
While you are waiting for all the pics from these events, check out the pic I’ve just added to the “wildlife” gallery of the most perfect little frog you’ll ever see. I was lucky enough to spot him in the backyard and he was kind enough to pose for some pics.
Till next time, take care!
Hey guys,
Last time I updated my blog, I was complaining about all the rain we had been having, but little did I know just how bad things were to get.
Most of you will already know about the horrific floods in large areas of south east Queensland and the huge loss of life and property. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected in anyway by this terrible tradgedy and I am so thankful that no-one I know was too badly affected.
Last time I also promised to upload some pics from Rnd 1 of the 2011 New Year Series at Willowbank Raceway and if you go to the gallery you can see those photos. They were just taken from the stands, but there’s a few half decent shots in there. Incidentally, the second round was cancelled due to the floods.
Till next time, Take care friends.
Hey guys and Gals,
How about all the rain lately!!!!!
It’s just been outta control, hope you are all safe and not too much flood damage.
I managed to attend the first round of the New Year Series at Willowbank Raceway just before I had to get back to the grindstone, and it was a pretty good meet except for Debbie Read’s big crash and the rain stopping play early on Day 2.
Debbie’s stack was a major one and of course no-one like to see that happen to anyone, but the Read family have been an institution in Aussie drag racing for just about ever and everyone involved with drag racing pretty much almost considers them part of the family. Therefore it was extra scary when Debbie tagged the wall in the braking area, causing the dragster to spear accross in front of her competitor and hit the opposite wall hard. She was unconscious for a long time whilst they removed her from the wreck and she didn’t regain consciousness until on the way to hospital. Latest reports are that she will be ok, but very scary indeed. Special mention must go to the Willowbank track staff and the Ambulance officers on hand.
I’m gonna have some pics up in the next few days from this event, but in the meantime, I thought I’d share a cool wheelstand sequence I managed to shoot from way up in the stands. There’s one in the middle there where someone’s head got in the road, but it’s a pretty good shot of a good mate of mine Mal Burgess missing the shot! The master is not quite perfect! lol I am sure everyone will forgive him though…he captures some of the absolute best drag racing photos you will EVER see, so he’s up on most photographers around the place anyway!
You’ll find the wheelstand sequence in the gallery under the Motorsport section.
Enjoy and please take care on the roads in this aweful weather.
The biggest event at Warwick Dragway each year is the annual Dragfest meet.
This year, the track was celebrating 10 years of operation. Ten years as arguably the best regional track in the country. Ten years of “Good Times, Great Racing.”
Of course the signature event in such a momentous year was always going to be huge…as long as the weather held up!
I can happily report that, except for a very small shower on the first day, the rain stayed at bay until just before the end of presentations. What a weekend!
Enjoy this small selection of the photos I managed to capture throughout the weekend. In particular, check out the small sequence of Ken Stevenson’s blown 6 cylinder FED. It was sporting the engine from Mark Stewart’s awesome altered and the results were pretty much the same as when that engine is in it’s usual home…wild wheelstands! The running joke for the weekend was that the dragster was aiming for me! It seemed that no matter where I stood, the beast stood up and turned directly for me. Ken was loving it, and as a photographer, so was I!
Hey guys, I’m sorry I’ve been SO slack! NO, I haven’t fallen off the planet, I’ve just been so crazy busy that I haven’t gotten around to updating the site in a while…oh, and of course I’M SLACK!!
Anyway, like I said, I’ve been busy, and I promise that this update is worth the wait. I’ve updated the “Magazine Shoots” page in the GALLERY with FIVE new feature cars….one of them actually features two cars, so you could say SIX new feature cars!!
First up is Bruce and Melanie Cole’s “His’N'Hers” ‘64 XM Falcon Coupe and ‘ HT Monaro, then there’s my first ever bike shoot, Andre Eman’s sensational custom Harley. Following up from there is Stephen Weeks’ beautiful ‘ AP5 Valiant. This was Stephen’s first car, which he bought when he was 15 years old! The car now runs a 360 stroked to 402ci with a Paxton supercharger! On the same weekend I shot the Valiant, I also did John Poole’s tough, wheelstanding 1960 XK Falcon ute, powered by 408 cubes of Henry’s finest. Finally, for this update is the extremely cool, all steel, Aussie bodied ‘32 Ford Pickup of Don Collins.
Also recently, I’ve been lucky enough to have one of my features make it onto the cover of NITRO! magazine! It’s the current issue (Issue 37) and is the awesome ‘51 Oldsmobile Ledsled of Brendon Gorman with the lovely Mishka Martini there to help pretty things up. I’m very happy to make the cover, so be sure to check it out!
I’ve also recently attended a few shows and the 2010 running of the Warwick Dragway Dragfest event. This event was a cracker, so lookout for some pics of that meeting very soon!
Another thing that’s happened, and one of the things that was making my life so busy I might add, is that I’ve finally gotten my HJ Premier on the road! I’m so glad to be back in an old skool car as my daily driver, so I’ll finally be able to do some serious cruising. Of course I still have my ‘40 Chev pickup project which I’ll be building and hopefully complete in the next few years with the help of some very good mates…cant wait for that one (open fendered, 5 inch roof chop and blown small block!) and I’ll try and keep you all updated on the slow progress of that one.
Anyway, that’s all for now folks. Keep your eyes open for the Dragfest pics in the next little while and dont forget to add me on facebook if you havent already, as I always announce updates to the site on there.
Stay cool and keep cruisin’!
Well, when will this rain end? …to say I’m well and truly over it would be an understatement. So far, the wet stuff has affected the Monaro Nationals, the Pro Street meet at Willowbank, the Six Banger Nationals, The VW Warwick Weekender and countless other events. I’ve also had to postpone lots of photoshoots, so the sooner it stops, the happier I’ll be!
Speaking of events, Dragfest is coming up! WOOHOOO!!!
What’s Dragfest? I hear you ask. It’s the biggest event held each year at my favourite track, Warwick Dragway. This year’s version will also celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Warwick Dragway, so this is gonna be HUGE! …we just need this rain to stay away and it will be the event to end all events. Hope to see you all there!
(Dragfest is held at Warwick Dragway on October 23 & 24 2010)
Well, as you know, I attend a LOT of carshows! My favourtite is probably Greazefest, mainly because it’s not just a show, but a custom culture festival. Yes, it has insanely cool cars, but it also features a low brow art display, TONNES of cool rockabilly bands and acres of trade stands devoted to all things 50s and 60s. The other truly great thing about this event is that plenty of guys and girls really get into the spirit and show up in their rockabilly gear, which really adds to the atmosphere on the day.
This year, Greazefest was on the move. After years of being held in South Brisbane, it had outgrown that venue and this year’s event was moved to a new home at the Rocklea Showgrounds. The extra room did wonders and Greazefest was bigger and better than ever.
Make sure you check out the photos in my “GALLERY” area, and make sure you dont miss it next year!
Catch ya later!
G’day everyone,
Today, I’d like to discuss a great event called the Six Banger Nationals.
This years running of the 6 Bangers was the third and it just keeps getting better! As the name suggests, this event is for any car powered by a six cylinder engine. Thanks to Mark and Lynn Stewart, the organisers of this event, I am fortuneate enough to be the “Official Photographer” of the 6 Banger Nationals! How cool is THAT!
Bad weather hampered this years event, and kept quite a few potential competitors away, but those that did show up had a BALL! Not a drop fell on the Saturday and this allowed a big day of qualifying, and two rounds of racing in the evening.
Running the two rounds proved to be a great idea, as Sunday was rained out totally, but a result was still able to be woprked out due to those two rounds being run on Saturday night.
Next years 6 Bangers is looking to be HUGE, as a lot of competitors who didn’t make it due to the impending precipitation, really regretted not coming and have vowed to be there next time. I’m looking forward to it already!
Check out the pics I’ve uploaded in the “GALLERY” section. I’ve got plenty more and I’ll upload more if anyone is interested.
Take care and stay safe.
In the last few months, there have been SO many car shows!
Besides the Monaro Nationals that I mentioned in my last entry, I’ve been to the Hills College Hot Rod Show, Greazefest, Jimboomba Hot Rod, Street Machine and Bike Show, Redneck Scroungers and Wintersun. I think that’s all of them but I may have missed some!
I’ve also attended lots of race meetings. Winternationals, Nostalgia Nationals, Six Banger Nationals, Warwick Dragway Bracket Meet and Mopar Sunday. Again, I’ve probably missed some!
Also been fortuneate to do a few feature car shoots, including Leon’s gorgeous XB Falcon Hardtop and Keith’s ‘2p Dodge Van…check ‘em out in the picture section!
Till next time, take care everyone.
